The Child Haven Project
Read Trent Biggs' e-mails from Hyderabad
The Social Concerns Committee is working to raise funds for, and develop cultural exchange with, an orphanage in Hyderabad, India, which is part of the Child Haven International group of facilities for children and youth around the world.
Social Concerns Committee member Trent Biggs is currently living and working in Hyderabad, India, and facilitating the development of this relationship. An initial goal to raise $3,000 for a purchase of land to expand the orphanage has been met. Members are working with the Live Oak Religious Education program to incorporate learning and cultural exchange opportunities, and additional events that will include fundraising elements are planned.
Donations made out to Child Haven International can be sent to Attention: Child Haven Project, Live Oak UU Congregation of Goleta, 820 N. Fairview Avenue, Goleta, CA 93117.

Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE)
Committee members are involved in a recently formed group, termed Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice of Santa Barbara.
CLUE meetings are the second Wednesday of every month at noon at the Mission. All are welcome!
The mission of the group is to bring together clergy and laity from all faiths to organize and advocate for, and build bridges on behalf of, persons who are poor and marginalized in our communities. The group meets monthly to sponsor and plan projects and programs that will carry out the mission.
