March 31, 2013 — Rev. Thomas — Easter Sunday

"Easter and Spring Celebration"
Let us honor this special time of year with a celebration of the holidays—Easter, Passover and Spring's arrival. In our joyful time together, there will be splendid music from our Choir and John Sonquist, beautiful words including a special sermon and mostly, the excellent gathering of our Beloved Community. Plus: there will be an Egg Hunt for the children after the service, so make sure all the kids come!

April 7, 2013 — Rev. Thomas
“UUs Haven’t Got a Prayer”

As a parish minister, people often ask me to say pray for them for one reason or another.  They assume that’s what ministers do.  But are UU ministers different, and do we even have a prayer?  What does all this mean for us?

April 14, 2013 — Rev. Thomas
“CELEBRATION SUNDAY!”

Come one, come all, to Live Oak’s magnificent Celebration Sunday!  There will be excellent words spoken, outstanding music played and sung, sumptuous food served, and even comedy sketches performed—all on this day as we conclude our 2013-14 Stewardship Campaign.  You don’t want to miss this amazing day at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Congregation!

April 21, 2013 — Rev. Ken Collier
“In Praise of Change”

Change scares people. It would seem that it would make life so much easier if everything could just stay the same. But, alas, that’s just not possible. The very nature of time itself guarantees that things will always change and life will always be influx. What is one to do? Well, one thing we could do is to celebrate change.

(NOTE: Rev. Ken Collier is the Pacific Southwest District’s new Ministerial Settlement Representative (MSR).  That means he is trained to help churches find new ministers, including the sometimes challenging process of preparing the Ministerial Search Committee.  After today’s service Ken will meet with the Live Oak Congregation to report on the process of finding and selecting a new settled minister here.  You will want to add your voice to this exciting conversation.)

April 28, 2013 — Lisl Auf der Heide
“Aging Gratefully”
(in prose and poetry)

The saying has it “Old age is not for sissies.”  What is it like to get old?  Do we get wiser?  Is there a magic formula?  As usual, lots of questions and maybe a few answers.
