September 5: Sabbath-Keeping
Rev. Erika Hewitt

An ancient commandment was to “remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy.” What’s your understanding of the Sabbath and how we “keep it holy”? This service will be followed by Live Oak’s annual picnic at Tucker’s Grove (Turnpike at Cathedral Oaks). Join us!

September 12: Water for a Thirsty World
Rev. Erika Hewitt

It’s our water communion service for all ages! In this multimedia celebration, we’ll consider our part in the human family. What does it mean to bring water, and to bear it to a thirsty world? Please bring a bit of water representing your summer.

September 19: Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It
Rev. Erika Hewitt

In her last sermon before her sabbatical, (part 1), Erika will reflect on the five years we’ve shared together, and what awaits Live Oak this year. Join us for a farewell reception following this worship service.

September 26: D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) Spiritual Practices
Rev. Laura Mancuso, Interfaith Chaplain

How can individuals create a set of daily practices that deepen our personal spiritual growth? What if the rituals and activities we relied upon in the past have lost their meaning? Rev. Laura will share some observations and resources she’s gathered along the way from her own spiritual journeying and experimentation.

September 26:  Giving BIG!
Children’s Chapel with Rev. Erika

Erika will spend time with Live Oak’s children as we learn about the difference that small gifts can make. We’ll hear the story Beatrice’s Goat and together will choose recipients for $300 of micro-credit loans from Live Oak’s Kiva account.

October 3: On Prayer and Unknowing
Rev. Melitta Haslund

Prayer can be a tricky concept and practice for many Unitarian Universalists.  Increasingly, studies show that prayer is beneficial. What is “prayer” and what role might it have in our lives as seekers who honor both the rational and spiritual?
